Caroline Wilks – Managing Director & Founder
“You are only as strong as the people you work with” .
"This was said to me by my boss at Bank of Bermuda 15 years ago. He grew the Bank’s finance operation in Isle of Man from 4 people to 150 people creating a hugely profitable business, but also a great culture. I remember his words now every day of the week, and this has been the vital key to the success of the business."
Caroline has been involved in the equestrian industry all her life through a family run, British Horse Society (“BHS”) approved equestrian business in the Isle of Man and Oxfordshire. Independent of the equestrian industry, for fifteen years she held private client and corporate global management roles in the finance industry with two international banks with bases in the Isle of Man (Royal Bank of Canada and Bank of Bermuda). Latterly, she focused on business and product development, working with international legal and accountancy firms in London, Dublin, and other major cities.
Caroline left the finance sector to manage, refocus and develop the family equestrian business. She is the great granddaughter of Sir Walter Gilbey Bt., who was awarded a baronetcy for his work with horse breeding in England. Not only was he a successful breeder of hunters, race horses and shire horses, and President of the Royal Agricultural Society, the Hunter Improvement Society, and the Shire Horse Society, but he was also a successful entrepreneur, setting up Gilbey’s Gin and Elsenham Foods.
Caroline has a strong mix of business acumen, leadership ability, entrepreneurial skills and interpersonal skills. She brings to the Company over twenty-five years of product development, management and operations experience from the finance and equestrian industries. Caroline has successfully raised over £6 million in two existing EIS companies both of which are anticipated to return a profit to investors on exit after five years.
